Toyota Supra FAQ

Is Toyota Discontinuing Supra?

If we're talking Toyota GR Supra, sources like Cars.com, Hagerty, Automotive News, and Car and Driver are mixed on the subject; some believe the car will be discontinued by or in 2026, while others claim it may remain in production -- there's no word from Toyota yet.

If we mean the original Supra, however -- the one that ran from 1986 through late 1990s -- it's already gone out of production, as of 1998. That means you can get one used relatively cheap, leaving plenty of room financially for upgrades.

How Much Does an Original Toyota Supra Cost?

That depends on its model year, condition, mileage, and what options it's got. A 1988 Toyota Supra MKIII, for instance, may go for around $16,000, according to Hagerty, with 1989 variants with turbochargers going for $19,000 or so. However, you could be looking at paying tens of thousands for one to more than one-hundred grand, depending on how much customization's been done.

Luckily, you can do your own a lot cheaper. To improve its handling, for example, mod the suspension: swap out for lowering springs, performance shocks and struts, and a sway bar. For sleeker looks and to cut the car's weight a little, consider adding carbon-fiber body panels, trim, and wheelsand exchanging any spoiler it's got for a wing.

Toyota Supra vs. Toyota GR Supra: What's the Difference?

Typically, GR Supra is more powerful. You can still get more horsepower and torque for your original Supra, though: install a turbo or a supercharger, a cat-back exhaust with a high-flow catalytic converter, a performance air filter, and a cold air intake.
